There are, however, many different types of grapes with some more suitable in the home garden than others. Thomcord is a seedless, self-pollinating variety and is heat tolerant. This incomparable blue table grape offers the best of both worlds with the deep lushness of Concord but with the light sweetness of Thompson, and it is aromatic in flavor. It was developed by the Californian grape breeders working for the ARS, an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It is a popular supermarket variety but enjoyable to grow on your own. Plant this perennial in a location with full sun exposure. - Plant dormant, bare-root grape vines in the early spring. Construct a trellis, or framework so you can train the vines to grow upon it. Before planting soak the roots in water for 2 hours. Full sun locations are best and good drainage is important.
